Set in the beautiful Whangapoua Bay of the Coromandel Peninsula this idyllic setting became the location for this simple kiwi bach. The client wanted to keep the concept simple, yet required some of those small luxuries in life like bathing in a bubble filled bath with a glass of red wine listening to the waves lapping at the beach. Setup as a Shepherds hut where the visitor can relax and return to nature, the design encompasses natural plywood cladding and a large heat mass of schist to capture the northerly sun and distribute into the home as the evening sets in. There are two wings to the design, the first being the guest wing and the second the living and entertaining wing containing the master bed and magnificent indoor/outdoor ensuite. It is all encapsulated with a central Kitchen/Dining room and large patio designed for entertaining on those hot summer nights.
